Specific features of the tension of nonlinearly elastic specimens

Abstract

For all physically admissible material parameters of the Blatz-Ko model of compressible nonlinearly elastic material, a problem about plane deformation of a rectangle specimen is considered. The above deformation is due to either uniformly distributed axial load or to onward displacement of its butt ends bounded to a rigid body. For the case of uniform deformation, the region of material constants is constructed, at which the stretch diagram is not monotonic. In the case of the specimen deformation by rigid grips, the finite-element analysis package is used to study the action of boundary conditions and specimen shape on the extension diagram.
