Abstract

In the article the monitoring measurements of gravity in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) was analyzed. The observed tidal variations of gravity differ from the theoretical gravitational attraction of moon and sun. The difference between the measured and theoretical values of gravity is non-tidal variations of gravity. There is a close relationship between non-tidal variations of gravity and magneto-telluric variations of the field. Therefore, it is hypothesized that non-tidal variations of gravity depend on solar activity. Obviously, the source of non-tidal variations are the coronal mass ejection (CME) by the sun. Major earthquakes result from coronal mass ejection. This statement is confirmed by practical examples. This could serve as a criterion of short-term earthquake prediction.
